Srinagar: Hurriyet (M) Chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has deplored the restrictions imposed on the movement of pro-freedom leadership, further adding that the BJP-PDP regime was intimidating media to refrain it from highlighting the problems faced by people in Kashmir. According to the Kashmir Media Service, Farooq said in a tweet that now that the entire pro-freedom leadership has been caged in the name of peace, Mehbooba Mufti-led PDP-BJP administration was next trying to gag media as well. “What a shame!” he wrote. A statement issued by the Hurriyet forum in Srinagar also said, “real peace cannot be achieved by stifling the political freedom and liberty of the Hurriyet leadership and placing curbs on their movement.
” It also asked India and Pakistan to initiate dialogue and involve the Kashmiri resistance leadership to permanently settle the Kashmir dispute. The forum also condemned the continued house arrest of Farooq and termed it as politics of revenge. “The Mirwaiz family, besides discharging its political duties, had been, for generations, rendering service in the religious field through sermons and discourse and thus spreading the message of Islam in Kashmir.
With the onset of the holy month of Ramadan, the continued house arrest of the Mirwaiz would practically stop him from discharging his religious responsibility as Mirwaiz which amounts to interference into religious affairs and religious freedom of the Muslims of Kashmir,” the statement noted. It then also denounced the continued house arrest of Mukhtar Ahmad Waza, Shahid-ul-Islam, the detention of Engineer Hilal Ahmad War and the house arrest of a number of resistance leaders and activists, further adding that such aggressive tactics could not suppress the Kashmiris’ resolve to carry forward the ongoing freedom movement.
