RAWALPINDI: Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif condemned the brutal killing of Kashmiri young man Burhan Wani by the Indian authorities, during the monthly Corps Commanders’ Conference at the General Headquarters here on Wednesday.
The army chief reiterated that the world needs to recognise the struggle for freedom of the Kashmiri people and their aspirations, and help resolve the long standing issue in Kashmir for lasting peace and for enduring peace in the region. During the meeting, the external security situation was discussed with emphasis on the situation in Afghanistan.
The forum also reviewed the progress of measures being taken to ensure effective border management necessary to scrutinise cross-border movement and to ensure strict check on militants’ movement. The army chief also appreciated efforts of the intelligence and other security agencies in ensuring peace and security during Eid days despite some threats from the militants.
